ST JOHN VIANNEY COUNCIL #9528

About us

St John Vianney council #9528  formed in 2023  after 3 parishes re aligned into the East Windsor Family of Parishes and after St Vincent DePaul parish was dissolved. Father Nolan council and St Vincent DePaul Council merged.  This decision was made to better provide the assistance to the community and the parish that our organization is known for. With that we are taking our established histories and programs from both councils and moving forward to form a cohesive  council.

OUR PATRON SAINT

John Vianney (born Jean-Marie Vianney and later Jean-Marie-Baptiste (or Jean-Baptiste-Marie) Vianney; 8 May 1786 – 4 August 1859), venerated as Saint John Vianney, was a French Catholic priest who is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint and as the patron saint of parish priests. He is often referred to as the “Curé d’Ars” (i.e. the parish priest of Ars), internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars, France, because of the radical spiritual transformation of the community and its surroundings. Catholics attribute this to his saintly life, mortification, persevering ministry in the sacrament of confession, and ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His feast day is August 4.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FOUNDER

(August 12, 1852 – August 14, 1890) was an Irish-American Catholic priest based in New Haven, Connecticut. He founded the Knights of Columbus at a local parish to serve as a mutual aid and fraternal insurance organization, particularly for immigrants and their families. It developed through the 20th century as the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization.

The cause for his canonization started in the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1996; in March 2008, Pope Benedict XVI declared McGivney “Venerable” in recognition of his “heroic virtue”. On May 27, 2020, Pope Francis announced that McGivney had been approved for beatification, which officially happened on October 31, 2020. The pope’s action means that McGivney can be declared “Blessed”, the step just prior to sainthood. An additional miracle attributed to McGivney’s intercession will be required for his canonization as a saint
